A 2020 Prayer

( In light of the pandemic, senseless hate and violence in America)

God of Moses, Naomi and Nehemiah, we thank you for your hand of righteousness that uplifts the lowly and gives power to the powerless. We cherish the wonders of your world-changing witness throughout salvation history and we embrace the coming of your kingdom of justice and peace. For it is your peace that we need in this world today to help the hateful put away their violence as your people mourn sons and daughters who succumb to senseless murder, destruction and disease. We ask for your strength to seek a better world and dismantle systems of evil that seek to destroy your people. For we are truly your people, even when we stray and turn away from the paths that would otherwise lead us to you. So we ask your forgiveness now for what we have done or left undone and we ask you to help restore right relationships with you and our neighbors in the efforts to reflect your kingdom in our communities here on Earth. May we remember to lower our eyes to our brothers and sisters who need us and as we care for one another, we ask you to continually care for us and protect us from powers that seek to kill, steal, and destroy even as we know they were defeated by your Son on that Easter day when the stone was rolled away. Likewise, we open our hearts to you for your spirit to roll away every burden and barrier to your love so that we find our way to you through the lies of this world to your truth that can make us all free in You and your Son who reigns with the Holy Spirit, One God, omniscient, omnipotent and eternal.
